Xalen Data Management
Xalen is a data management and analytics consultancy, based in Melbourne, Australia. Born out of experience gained in multiple projects, we determine where successes might be achieved.
We work with clients to project manage data, whether it is held in a structured or unstructured form. Advising on which questions to ask and delivering the answers drives success.

Data Wrangling
Making order out of confusion
Data is stored in a variety of systems and platforms, and each can be structured in its own way. Combine that with the volume of data and inevitable errors that can occur and the start of any project must be to determine the quality of the data. Wrangling data into order can be a complex and multi-staged process.
Xalen conducts a review of the sources of the data, determines the volume and its veracity and then combines the sources into a common structure that is possible to be analysed in the future. This ensures quality of information to provide accurate answers. Designing the structure always is intended to provide future scale and protocol direction.
Determining the structure draws upon our technical experience and ability to maximise the volume that can be analysed. It’s not a simple software tool that can deliver this – we use our methodologies which include a three pass process to maximise the effect and minimise errors.

Future proofing the structure
Determining the structure of the data for future use and integrated examination requires a consultative approach to ensure that its management will be easier for clients in the future. Therefore a review of client systems and protocols is important and our solution fits their requirements as opposed to the other way round.
The structure is determined to facilitate a combination of potential requirements, including connectors, internal processes, IT capabilities, analysis procedures and engagement with the relevant stakeholders. One size does not fit all and no solution can be off the shelf.
We then conduct instructional seminars to ensure that the structure is maintained and additions are entered in the most appropriate manner. This also assists in helping the staff to understand the potential value of the data and take ownership of it for the future.
Analysis
Uncovering the nuggets of value
Conducting an analysis to maximise the value requires knowledge of which questions to ask. Many systems abound with fancy graphics but Xalen uses its broad consulting experience to zero in on the primary issues.
Whether it’s a marketing campaign that needs to understand customer segmentation or drive efficiencies into a company’s process, we work with the clients to identify and pursue key issues that make quantifiable differences.
Using a combination of proprietary tools as well as managing the installation and monitoring of bespoke equipment, we are able to provide a detailed picture of future direction and growth to ensure wastage of effort is eliminated.
